Descriptif / Historique

1917 : invention of the twin-block sleeper by Mr. VAGNEUX, then Senior Engineer on the PLM Railway.

1923 : Launch of the SATEBA company by Mr. VAGNEUX. During the subsequent 25 years the use of VAGNEUX concrete sleepers was restricted to lightly-loaded lines because of the existence of joints between short-section rails.

Since 1947 : invention of elastic rail fasteners and appearance of continuous welded rails.

1973-1976 : network-wide adoption of concrete sleepers

1975 : Take-over of SATEBA by the BONNA SABLA subsidiary of VIVENDI

Since 1986 : R & D work on concrete floors for switchgear.

2005 : Sateba is a company of CONSOLIS, European leading group in prefabriquated products and concrete sleepers.

Subsidiary of CONSOLIS group, SATEBA is specialized in railway concrete sleepers and bearers manufacturing. SATEBA also offers engineering solutions such as turnkey factory, technical assistance and training. With its 3 factories located in France, Sateba has a yearly production capacity of 1,2 million sleepers.

SATEBA serves all railway markets : urban transport (tramway, metro, LRT), main line, high speed lines and freight.
